Solar powered street lights-Nairobi
This griped me as good news and I thought maybe I should share:-
The Ministry of Energy has floated a tender for installing of 30 solar power street lights along Parliament Road and Harambee Avenue in Nairobi.
Energy permanent secretary Patrick Nyoike said in tender documents obtained by the Daily Nation that the pilot project’s objective is to reduce over dependence on national electricity grid to light streets in urban areas.
He said companies interested in supplying, testing and commissioning of the 30 solar power street lights within 12 weeks must submit bids before October 14, 2009.
Mr said tender documents for the competitive exercise are available in the ministry’s offices in Nairobi upon payment of Sh5,000 non-refundable fees.
“Prices quoted should be net inclusive of taxes and delivery costs, expressed in Kenya shillings and shall be remain valid for a period of 90 days from the closing date of the tender,” he said.
Meanwhile, Gulf Energy has won the tender to import 160,000 metric tonnes of crude oil for processing by Mombasa based refinery.
The firm submitted lowest bid under open tender system.
Available documents show the Ministry of Energy on September 22 also awarded tender for importation of refined petrol, Jet A-1 and diesel to Gapco as after it offered the lowest price when competitive bids were opened in Nairobi.
A total of 105,697 metric tonnes refined fuel will be imported under OTS in October, 2009.
Kenya Petroleum Refineries Ltd meets 50 per cent of the country’s fuel needs with the rest being imported.
