Satima Wildlife Clubs Awards – Essay and photography competition
University or college students have a chance to show their writing might in this by-annual essay competition by Satima trust. If you are a proud Kenyan then the essay should be easy pie for you as the title should be “proud to be Kenyan”. The essay should be ready by November 2. The trust has announced the launch of the 2009 edition. The competition may just be the little chance you need to set yourself up in good time for occupational opportunities, depending on how well you prove yourself.
The sponsor, Satima Trust, was set up in 2005 to honour Dr. Imre Loefler, known for his spoken and written words. Dr Loefler, who died in 2007 aged 78, was a surgeon and also a professional partner of Amref. He frequently flew out to remote areas to help with medical emergency assignments. But he was also a prolific writer and essayist, which made him famous due to being frequently published in many publications. He was also appointed board member of organizations.
In 2005, a number of his friends formed Satima Trust to support students who displayed similar passion for writing. They launched Satima Essay Contest to expose the most gifted.
Update May 2014
Satima Trust was dissolved in 2011 and the founding trustees handed over the activities of the trust to the East African Wild Life Society (EAWLS). Satima Wildlife Clubs Awards was therefore formed (in 2011) by a merger of the annual art and essay contest for schools and colleges of the Wildlife Clubs of Kenya (WCK) and Satima Trust’s annual essay and public speaking contest for universities.
