How to Pay and Check your NHIF Status on Phone
It is now easy to check for the status of your NHIF contributions by simply sending an SMS to 21101.
What you need
- A working sms plan(at least 10 shillings credit)
- The contributors ID number
The procedure
To get your account status via your mobile phone:
- Compose a new sms
- Type the letters “ID”, a space, then your
ID number (or passport number if applicable) e.g ID 12345678 - Send to 21101
Note: Charge for this service is Kshs 10 only.

How to pay NHIF via MPESA
- Choose the Pay Bill option on your M-pesa menu
- Enter Business no. 200222
- Type in contributor’s National Identity Number
- Enter amount in Kenya shillings you wish to contribute
- Type in your M-Pesa Pin
- Confirm all details are correct then press OK
You will receive a confirmation SMS from Mpesa immediately.
Transaction charges applicable are Kshs 15.
NB: This option is only available to voluntary contributors & the self employed.
