How To Make Kachumbari Salad
Kachumbari is a fresh vegetable salad with tomatoes and onions and chili pepper as the main ingredients. You are free to put in other additions of fresh vegetables to taste. It’s a common salad in cuisines in the East African region. It goes well with French fries/chips, nyama choma, pilau, viari karai and many more dry foods. Kachumbari is easy to prepare and takes just a few minutes.
What you need:-
- 4 sliced tomatoes
- 2 medium sized onions
- 2 grated carrots
- Juice of freshly squeezed lemon or lime
- Fresh coriander (dhania)
- Pinch of salt and ground pepper or 2 chilies
How to prepare Kachumbari
- Slice onions into thin rings then wash with salted water to reduce acidity and put them in a bowl. You could still slice the onions into small cubes .
- Slice tomatoes , chilies and coriander
- Grate carrots
- Mix the sliced onions ,tomatoes, grated carrots, coriander and chilies into the bowl and mix them together.
- Add a pinch of salt to taste.
- Lastly splash the lemon or lime juice into the mixture.
- Serve with viazi karai, nyama choma or pilau and many more dry African cuisine
